About

Welcome to My Life After the Fire. Hi, I’m [Scott], and this blog, mylifeafterthefire.com, is where I share my journey following the devastating fire that occurred at my residence on January 2, 2025.

For what felt like an eternity–three long weeks–my only connection to the outside world was my iPhone. Navigating the overwhelming process of filling out countless online forms, meticulously scanning every receipt, and scheduling crucial appointments with insurance adjusters, fire investigators, and officials from Ontario County and Canandaigua without reliable internet was an incredibly frustrating and isolating experience. It truly felt like a nightmare.

Even after securing a temporary apartment just a short distance from my home, the absence of internet access meant restarting in more ways than one.

During this challenging period, I felt a strong desire to document what I was experiencing. I realized that the difficulties I faced, the lessons I learned the hard way, and the insights I gained could provide comfort or guidance to others who might unfortunately find themselves in a similar situation. On “mylifeafterthefire.com,” I plan to share my experiences openly – from the initial shock and immediate aftermath to the ongoing journey of recovery and rebuilding.

I plan to delve into the specifics of dealing with insurance claims, navigating the often-complex processes involving fire investigators and local government, addressing the challenges of finding and setting up temporary housing, and overcoming the unexpected hurdles that have arisen along the way. Beyond the practicalities, I also want to explore the emotional impact of such a significant loss and share what I’m learning about resilience and finding hope in the face of adversity.

My primary hope for this blog is that by sharing my story with honesty and vulnerability, I can offer a sense of connection, practical advice, or even the reassurance that someone else understands what you might be experiencing. If even one person finds something here that helps them feel less alone or more equipped to navigate their challenges after a fire, then sharing my experience will have been worthwhile.

Thank you for visiting my blog and reading my story. I invite you to join me as I rebuild my life one step at a time.

Sincerely,
